Kitty's Story page - The Pack Holiday - (header)

Hip, hip hooray it's the summertime!

Sam and his friends are going on pack holiday with the Beavers and Cub Scouts. They all help load up the coach. Everyone has brought their favourite teddy, except Sam. He's brought along his favourite snuggly, bobbly, blue blanket.

They arrived at the camp and Bella handed out the new camp neckers along with a huge list of jobs to do before tea.

Lemmy and Kitty unloaded everything from the coach to Sam and the others who carried it into the scout hut.

They organised space for everybody to sleep by rolling out their sleeping bags on the floor

Sam found his snuggly, bobbly, blue blanket and hid it under his pillow.

After all the jobs were done, Jeremy called a meeting.

All the Beavers and Cubs listened carefully while he told them what they should do if the smoke alarm on the ceiling of the scout hut should go off. Just like at home, they must GET OUT - CALL THE FIRE BRIGADE, and most importantly, STAY OUT

Jeremy showed them the quickest and safest way out of the hut, and told them that the pack holiday meeting place was outside by the flagpole. Sam was feeling a bit unsure so he peeped under his blanket, just to make sure his snuggly, bobbly, blue blanket was still there.

Lemmy moved the rucksacks away from the Fire Exit door. "People could fall over these if they needed to get out in a hurry," he explained, "We must keep any escape route clear in case of a fire"

"Oh Dear," thought Sam cuddling his snuggly, bobbly, blue blanket, "I hope we aren't going to have a fire"

After tea, Sam and his friends had great fun playing outside. Sam forgot to worry about having a fire. That night he sniggled into his sleeping bag with his snuggly, bobbly, blue blanket and was soon fast asleep.

All of a sudden he heard a terrible noise, BEEP BEEP BEEP.... it was the smoke alarm! Quickly, as they had practised, all the Beavers and Cubs got up and went outside and stood by the flagpole. Akela took the register. "Oh no!" exclaimed Sam, "my snuggly, bobbly, blue blanket... I must go back in and get it."

"NO!" shouted everyone, "It's NOT safe!"

At that moment Bella came out of the hut carrying a very burnt piece of toast. "Panic over," she said, "There isn't a real fire, we don't need to phone the fire brigade"

"Why did the fire alarm go off then?" asked Lemmy

"Because I burnt the toast!" explained Bella. "Still, now that we're awake, why don't we get our coats and look at the stars?"

Everyone picked up their coats and teddies, except Sam this is, who picked up his coat and... yes, you've guessed it... his snuggly, bobbly, blue blanket.

"Mmmm," thought Sam, gazing up at the beautiful stars, "I think I'm going to enjoy this adventure holiday after all!"
